We can now provide the full range of Britwind wind turbines

I would like to thank Nick and Liz at Britwind for taking the time to meet with me recently. Britwind are based in Stroud, Gloucestershire and have been in business for over 20 years and have 2,500 installations throughout the UK and Europe. Britwind are now part of the Ecotricity group.

Their current range has 4 models:

H1 - 1kW pole-mounted turbine

H5 - 5kW turbine mounted on a hinged pole

H11 - 11kW turbine mounted on a hinged pole

H15 - 15kW turbine mounted on a hinged pole

If sited in a suitably windy location, a small-scale Britwind wind turbine can help lower electricity bills and provide energy day and night with zero emissions. It is a great compliment to solar PV, as the performance of both systems peaks when the other drops.

A couple of things really stood out during my visit:

Firstly, the philosophy of either manufacturing in-house or sourcing from within the UK. In fact, they stated to me that the only significant component sourced from outside the UK is the permanent magnet as there is no UK-based manufacturer unfortunately. It made me think that maybe we should stop stating that we no longer make anything in the UK – we should celebrate the products we make and support these businesses.

Secondly, the positive and relaxed atmosphere in the facility – I could not have been made to feel more welcome. I left Britwind with the feeling that this is a company I'm comfortable and happy to be working with.
